Jewellery Care

Jewellery Care

Your beautiful jewellery does need to be looked after. We have compiled a list of hints and tips for you on how to care for your Phoenix-Tree jewellery, so it will look as lovely as the day you received it.

  • Skin and hair products can react with precious jewellery causing it to tarnish, discolour and possibly corrode. We strongly advise applying (and allowing time to dry) any cosmetics and scents before you put on your jewellery.
  • Remove any jewellery before engaging in any form of physical exercise. Be it at the gym, gardening or cleaning, as this will ensure your jewellery is not accidentally damaged. Perspiration can also contribute to the tarnishing of your jewellery.
  • Chemicals found in swimming pools and natural springs will cause extreme tarnishing. Water will also contribute to tarnishing of your jewellery. Therefore, always remove your jewellery before entering a pool, shower, spring or the sea. Some gemstones are particularly vulnerable to damage if exposed to these conditions.
  • We recommend storing your jewellery in a zip lock bag or closed container as exposure to the air and environment can cause your jewellery to tarnish over time. Silver jewellery is particularly prone to tarnishing. Acid free tissue is also a good way to store your jewellery.
  • Store your jewellery separately, so that they don’t tangle or rub and scratch against each other. We do not recommend sleeping in your jewellery.
  • Do not store jewellery next to heating vents, windowsills or in the bathroom. Damp and hot conditions will cause the jewellery to tarnish badly.
  • To brighten up your silver pieces we recommend using warm soapy water and a soft toothbrush. You may wish to use a silver polish and soft cloth, if doing so, check suitability of use and adhere to the manufacturer’s guidelines. Avoid applying any gemstones or pearls that are in the piece. Avoid silver dip for any pieces containing any gemstones or pearls.
  • Do not use ultrasonic cleaners for pieces of jewellery containing gemstones or pearls. Follow manufacturer’s instructions if cleaning purely precious metal pieces of jewellery in this way. Phoenix-Tree jewellery cannot be held responsible for any damage caused to your jewellery when using ultrasonic cleaners.
  • White gold pieces are often rhodium plated to improve the ‘whiteness’ of your gold piece. We offer a cleaning re-polishing and plating service. Please enquire for details.
  • Take extra care when cleaning jewellery with gemstones and pearls and if unsure, do ask your local jeweller or contact us for further assistance.
